Nancy Williams Stevens has always loved learning about people, places, and things through books, research, and her own life experiences. A native of Washington, DC, Nancy grew up visiting its many monuments, museums, and special places with her mom, classmates, and friends. A proud Howard University alumna, she is a mom, former radio announcer and producer, and accomplished career civil servant.

She was inspired to write this story as a tribute to her mother—her first and greatest teacher—who encouraged Nancy to stay open to learning from both books and life. Nancy’s goal is to connect readers to her story, regardless of age, and inspire them to stay curious, especially in situations that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable.
