Tyra Green Lorenzo
Tyra Green Lorenzo is a licensed professional counselor in the State of Maryland with over 20 years of experience spanning direct clinical care and care advocacy. In 2004, she earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University. It was there that Tyra was introduced to the complexities of mental health, including traumatic brain injuries and opioid use disorders.

In an administrative capacity, Tyra supported the Buprenorphine study that later informed the development of Suboxone treatment. In 2007, she completed a post-Master’s certification specializing in community-based counseling, allowing for independent practice and licensure in the State of Maryland. From 2004 to 2017, Tyra’s community counseling work spanned diverse behavioral health treatment modalities, including roles as provider, state-approved supervisor, trainer, and consultant.

In 2017, Tyra transitioned from direct clinical care into administrative leadership by joining the State of Maryland’s Administrative Service Organization, which manages public behavioral health services statewide.

Today, Tyra identifies as a trauma survivor, with lived experience that includes childhood sexual abuse and narcissistic spouse abuse. Her personal journey has shaped a deep understanding of the internal healing process following betrayal and loss. Tyra has since resumed providing direct care and works with clients navigating grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and trauma related to personal, family, and professional relationships—often in the context of substance use disorders or other life disruptions.
