SYNOPSIS:
What happens when poets stop trying to make the truth comfortable?
BARE: Poetry Without Filter goes beneath the version of ourselves we show the world and into the places we usually keep covered.
Through a collection of candid, provocative, intimate, painful, humorous, and deeply human poetry, voices from different backgrounds confront the experiences that shape us: the bodies we live in, the people we desire, the relationships that change us, the wounds we carry, the histories we inherit, and what remains when everything else is stripped away.
The collection unfolds through six layers:
SKIN. TOUCH. NERVE. WOUND. BLOOD. BONE.
Each layer moves deeper.
From body image, confidence, attraction, and sexuality to betrayal, trauma, family, race, grief, survival, healing, mortality, and legacy, these poems refuse to polish every feeling into something easier to consume.
Some will make you laugh.
Some will make you uncomfortable.
Some may sound dangerously familiar.
And some will put words to something you have never been able to say aloud.
BARE is not poetry written to behave.
It is poetry willing to tell the truth.
For readers who believe the most powerful writing is the kind that leaves something exposed.
